Tivoli utilizes an existential-humanistic approach to counseling and incorporates mindfulness, narrative therapy, and dream work into her sessions. She believes total health involves addressing the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of a person. Tivoli works with people struggling with various mental health issues and an assortment of life difficulties including:
Existential therapists believe that problems arise when we resist the givens of life. Change happens when we embrace the truth and take responsibility for our lives. I want to help you gain acceptance around yourself and the givens of life so that you can live more peacefully and authentically.
The narrative approach posits that we make sense of our lives by attributing meaning through stories. We often become stuck in stories that do not allow us to live to our full capacity, so we must rewrite our stories to help us move forward. I want to help you rewrite your stories of pain and brokenness so that you can have new stories that allow you to experience joy and wholeness.
Mindfulness centers us in the present moment. We learn to accept, let go, and not expend energy managing thoughts, feelings, and sensations that are beyond our control. Many of life’s difficulties come from resisting the realities of life; learning to accept reality for what it is helps relieve the experience of discomfort and stress from these difficulties
Dreams provide wonderful material for session as they give us a picture of the struggles that may be going on inside you. If interested in processing through a dream in session, please write down as much of the dream that you can remember and bring this with you to your session.
